1)Who is Gavin McKenna?

Gavin McKenna is one of the biggest hockey prospects and talents of his generation. A Canadian boy, born in Whitehorse, Yukon, plays forward. He plays for Penn State University in the NCAA and is often described as a project #1 pick in the 2026 NHL Draft.

NHL Central Scouting put him as a first player among North American skaters in the midterm ranking for the draft.

Before the NCAA, he was a star in the Western Hockey League (Medicine Hat), with big production in the 2024–25 season, according to statistical databases.

2)What happened, and why was he charged?

Gavin McKenna was charged with felony aggravated assault after the incident in State College, Pennsylvania, which happened on 31. January 2026. after the game on the open field on which Penn State Nittany Lions men’s ice hockey played against Michigan State Spartans men’s ice hockey.

According to the police allegations reported by Associated Press. McKenna kicked a 21-year-old man two times in the face, which caused a broken jaw and lost teeth, along with the operation and wire/fixation of the jaw.

Along with the felony accusation, there are rumors and additional accusations, such as simple assault, harassment, and disorderly conduct.

It was published that he was arraigned and released from detention with 20000$ bail, with a preliminary hearing around 11. february.
